Tanzania Chapter
YASA in Tanzania is known as Tanzania Young Statisticians (TYS). TYS’s aim is to promote statistical literacy among young people in Tanzania and to enable them to appreciate the importance of statistics. TYS in Tanzania was officially established in 2017 during the TASTA Meeting in Changanyikeni.
The main objective of TYS is to build the capacity of all young statisticians in data-driven areas of development. Among the targeted population are young people in secondary and tertiary institutions in order to increase statistical knowledge and utilisation and to encourage partnerships and collaboration with relevant organisations and government ministries such as the National Bureau of Statistics in Tanzania.
TYS also considers the importance of networking and collaboration with other statisticians in Africa for the purposes of information sharing and exchange.
